The Ministry of Education has assured public schools that they will receive third term capitation latest Wednesday next week.
In a statement on Friday, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang said the Treasury has released Sh16.2 billion as capitation for public primary, junior and secondary schools.
“These capitations will be disbursed as follows; Junior secondary school Sh1.7 billion, Free Primary Education Sh1.5 billion and Free Day Secondary education Sh12.9 billion,” Kipsang said.
“The ministry wishes to assure all schools that the funds will be wired to respective school accounts by September 20 to facilitate smooth delivery of targeted learning activities,” the PS added.
Schools reopened for the third term on August 28 for the final phase of learning in the 2023 school calendar which will run until October 27 to pave the way for national examinations.
The capitation released by the Treasury on Friday is part of the Sh89.4 billion allocated for capitation in the 2022-23 Financial Year for the three levels of learning.
Kipsang said the ministry has relayed a detailed breakdown of the funds for their prudent utilisation as is required under government regulations.
“In the meantime, field officials and institutional administrators are reminded that all school activities involving parents and other stakeholders are not allowed during the third term for adequate preparations for the national examinations that are set to start on October 30, 2023.
A timetable released by the Kenya National Examination Council indicates that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the maiden Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be done in the same period.
KCPE and KPSEA rehearsals will be on Friday, October 27, 2023.
The exams for both levels will begin on Monday, October 30, and end on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.
KCSE candidates will have rehearsals on October 19 and sit their final paper on November 24, 2023.
