It emerges that President William Ruto has reversed Uhuru Kenyatta’s plan on CBC. This is after the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms disregarded the earlier recommendations that were made by curriculum experts from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), as well as the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) and the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KSSHA). But the task-force is expected to present final report on March 2023.
It was also noted that the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms has made a number of recommendations concerning CBC as the country phases out the 8-4-4 education system. The recommendations include:
Junior secondary schools which will include Grades 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 – will be domiciled in the existing primary schools across the country.
The just concluded Grade 6 examination will not be used for placement in the Junior Secondary Schools, however the whole Grade Six class will proceed to Grade Seven in the primary school where the pupil was.
Another recommendation says that an extra classroom for the Grade 9 and a lab will be built in every Primary School.
All the Primary School teachers teaching Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9 are expected to undergo re-training.
